Jerusalem municipality documents Wakf violations on Temple Mount

(IsraelWire-6/22) A report prepared by the Jerusalem municipality documented severe building violations on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount which remains in the hands of the Moslem Wakf Religious Trust.

As the Wakf in conjunction with the Israel Islamic Association continues illegal construction on the Mount, the number of complaints being received by police and government officials continues to increase. Protests have been heard by archaeologists, elected officials and members of the academic community, demanding a halt to the illegal construction which is resulting in irreparable damage to artifacts and Judaism’s holiest site.

State Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein will on Thursday meet with senior police commanders and members of the General Security Service (GSS/Shin Bet) to evaluate the situation. To date, the government has opted to turn a blind eye to the ongoing illegal construction to avoid Islamic violence that would result if police moved in to stop the construction according to security officials.

Rubinstein will address the ongoing construction with the senior security establishment commanders and may reach a decision regarding an Israeli response.
